Home Acne Care

Acne and acne care have long been part of adolescence and the teenage years. We’ve all heard the stories about some poor girl waking up to a horrible blemish on her nose the day before a big date. But acne strikes adults too, and acne care can actually become more difficult in adulthood. Acne is caused by clogged pores, which are often the result of oily skin. Adults are more likely to have combination skin types ranging from dry or normal to oily, and this can make acne care a challenge.

Acne can also be caused by irritation to the skin from confining clothing, chafing or even shaving. Hormones are also a contributing factor, which is one of the reasons why acne is so prevalent in adolescence and why pregnant women can find themselves dealing with outbreaks and acne care.

While there are many causes of this relatively harmless but nonetheless frustrating and often painful skin condition, the guidelines for acne care are pretty much the same across the board.

Cleaning the affected area with a mild soap or cleanser is an important part of acne care. When suffering from acne, there is often a temptation to use astringent cleansers. Such products are generally not recommended for irritated skin.

Acne Face Wash

There are a lot of different acne face washes out there today, and I have experimented with just about all of the ones available over the counter, as well as some prescription versions as well. They all generally fall in two categories based on the two most common acne face wash active ingredients; those that use benzyl peroxide and those that use salicylic acid. Even the prescription acne face washes I tried used benzyl peroxide, but in a well higher concentration.

I have bounced back and forth between using the two different chemicals, and I find that benzyl peroxide is consistently more effective for me. It is no shock to me that most of the acne face washes out there, including the prescriptions, use benzyl peroxide. However, salicylic acid positively helps as well, and I've found that the excellent method is to use both. Not at the very time of course, but if I use a benzyl peroxide acne face wash in the morning, and then a salicylic acid one at night, I seem to get superior results than if I just use one type only.

Regular use of an acne face wash and generally taking good care of my skin seems to go a long way, but now and then I still get outbreaks. I have come to accept that a certain degree of acne in my life is something of an inevitability. Ever since I was a youth, I've been overcome by acne, and it hasn't really let up much even well into my matured life.

Which Acne Medicines Work

What acne medicines have you tried? Do they truly zap that pimple in no time, or are you waiting days and days for it to fade? They say that a zit takes one week to go through its cycle, and then supposedly it should be gone on its own. In theory that doesn't sound too awful. I mean, a week isn't really that long. However, are you willing to walk around with a white puss-filled bump on your face for all the world to glare at in disgust? Probably not. This particular situation makes most of us uncomfortable.

Well, you could always cover that irksome blemish with a Band-Aid. Because that's not conspicuous or anything. Or, you could get your hands on some decent acne medicines and obliterate the problem altogether. You see, the burden of breakouts lies more in dealing with pimples that are already there. So it is time to stop letting them arise.

What you need is some quality acne medicines that prevent breakouts. That way you're not waiting an entire week for zits to run their cycle. Stifle those nasty whiteheads, blackheads, and bumps once and for all.
